Self
The Self series includes some of my earliest photography works taken in my immediate everyday surroundings: my family home with its garden and the beach in Marsaskala which I have frequented all my life. I was in my late teens at the time, and had started venturing in the fashion industry as a model. This period proved to be frustrating as I did not like the way I was portrayed in shoots and catwalks, so my self portraits were a means to reclaim my looks and my space in order to achieve a state of beauty which I found to be more raw and more true. Without realising at the time, I was making my very first steps towards the performing arts.
